Minifigures is a Lego theme based on sets of collectible Lego minifigures. Each figure is an original character with new clothing and facial designs, and most contain previously unseen accessories.
Eight series of 16 minifigures each have been released, with the first being in June of 2010, and the latest in September of 2012. A total of 128 minifigures have been released so far.
The series consists of a number of individually themed collectible Lego minifigures based on movies, sports, history, and popular culture. The figures are sold individually in sealed, unmarked packages, giving customers a random chance at obtaining any particular figurine.
In the UK a special edition minifigure series titled "Team GB" was released to mark the opening of the 2012 London Olympic Games, but only had 9 minifigures to collect rather than the usual 16. The set included: Boxer, Gymnast, Horse Rider, Judo Fighter, Relay Runner, Swimmer, Tennis Player, Weightlifter and Archer. These minifigures were sold exclusively in the UK.
Some sets of older minifigures have been released, including a Lego VIP exclusive set featuring five "favorites" decided in an online poll of VIP members, and a Minifigure Accessory Pack featuring 3 older minifigures (Male Surfer, Female Surfer, and Hula Dancer) with added accessories such as a grill with a chicken leg.
Some of these minifigures were NPCs in the earlier Lego MMO, LEGO Universe. These included the Spaceman (in-game name: Ace Warprider), Robot (Axon Klaxon), Spartan Warrior (Achilles Plutarch), Pop Star (Gwen Tweenbangle), Disco Dude (Barry Smoothmoves), Vampire (Rutger Hemoglobin), and Witch (Olivia Nightshade).
